Hello Friends! I am so excited to share with you that I have an amazing opportunity to grow in my leadership skills, gain knowledge in non-profit operations, and gain in-country experience by interning with LightBridge International as Trip Leader in Cambodia this summer! I am so excited for this opportunity to not only grow personally, but deepen TruthFC’s relationship with LightBridge International, and acquire additional skills to grow TFC. This is an incredible opportunity that the Lord has placed in my lap!
Now, I’m going to be honest with you, while I am excited about this opportunity, I am a little nervous. Why? First off, I am a very picky eater and I generally do not like any kind Asian food (Japanese, Chinese, Thai…. You name it!). Additionally, I need to start fundraising $3,500 which can sometimes feel like a lot. But what makes me most nervous is that I will not only be leaving my family and friends for 6 weeks, I will also be leaving the in-state operations of TruthFC during our busiest time of year!
Six weeks is a long time to be away from managing an organization when I’m the one doing most of the heavy lifting. While this makes me nervous, I know deep down that the Lord will provide the right people in my life to help keep the operations of TFC going, especially during our tournament collections. Thankfully, I will be able to get ahead in some of the work to be done before I leave and I will have some access to wifi if worst case scenarios were to come up.
So what will I be doing in Cambodia and what is LightBridge International? LightBridge International’s mission is “Engaging individuals to care for the orphan and the poor by providing support, training, discipleship and development opportunities.” They accomplish this mission in several ways, with one being to help oversee orphanages in both Thailand and Cambodia. Furthermore, a majority of their work is done in a MineField Village where they have helped transform the community into a safer place for families to grow and cultivate without the fear of the landmines that were left behind during the Khmer Rouge. Not only that, but they have a school in the slums of Poipet and are the umbrella non-profit of Landmine Design. Landmine Design provides job opportunities for women at risk or those previously involved with sex trafficing to provide them freedom. All of this amazing work is done in the name of Christ and His love burns fiercely there.
During my time in Cambodia, I will be traveling 10 days before the other interns with the Executive Director of LightBridge International and her daughter. During this time, I will see the behind-the-scenes work of the sourcing projects for Landmine Design in Thailand and what preparing for the summer volunteer trips looks like. Once the other Interns arrive, I will join in leadership training with them. Some interns will also be fellow Trip Leaders while others will be helping in the Slum School or with the women working with Landmine Design. As a trip leader, I will be able to come alongside the volunteer groups to teach them about Cambodia’s history and culture in the capital city of Phnom Penh, tour Angkor Wat one of the man made wonders of the world, and what I am most excited for is sharing in Jesus’ love through ministry in Poipet, a small border town of Thailand.
As I prepare for this amazing internship, I ask that you join me in being a part of it. I would love for you to join me in being a prayer partner, specifically in the Lord opening my heart to the people of Cambodia and a willingness to learn from them. Secondly, I ask that you pray that the funding will come through and the Lord will guide the right people to give. Lastly, I ask that you pray that the Lord opens up doors for TFC to lead trips to Cambodia in the future.
Thanks + blessings,
Jayla A.
